Camden Town Hall wedding

Catherine and Dave got married in Camden Town Hall one December day last year, followed by a reception in the Welsh Centre in London.

Catherine was stunning and had a wonderful smile all the time, as you can see in these photos.

Their wedding was in December, so there were Christmas decorations everywhere and as the ceremony was in the afternoon, we had very little natural light to work with, but it was a lovely December evening full of good photo opportunities.

Winter weddings can be fun!

Winter weddings can be fun! If it is raining you still can get beautiful photos. You have the best excuse to use props such as umbrellas or a pair of wellies to add some color. I loved these pair of wellies that the bride wore in a wedding I had the pleasure to photograph on November.

Good reasons to get married in winter

As a wedding photographer I have most of my work concentrated from April until October, with less inquiries for the rest of the months of the year. However, it is getting more and more common for couples to organise a winter wedding. And there are good reasons to get married in winter, you may want to consider them, just keep reading below this Christmas wedding photos…

Weather itself can be one of the reasons. I know, it doesn’t make sense without giving it a little bit of though…when asking a couple of one of my winter weddings last year why they had chosen November, they told me that it was because when people get married in summer they expect the weather to be nice and they rely on it too much.

But let’s face it, sometimes it is not. Last year it was raining all summer. You couldn’t imagine how many umbrella shots I got!

You can still have a great day and beautiful wedding photographs with bad weather and rain, umbrellas are actually  a very nice prop for wedding photos. But somehow couples are a bit disappointed if the weather is not good in summer.  People who get married in winter on the other hand are not relying on weather for their wedding. They are likely to think the weather is going to be bad, so they are normally happy because it is not as bad as they thought it would be rather than disappointed.

Another good reason to get married in winter is that winter is very romantic! Snow, Christmas trees, candles…they all look wonderful and are so pretty… My only recommendation as a photographer is you are considering a winter wedding is to get mariied in the morning so there is still natural light for some time (specially for the group shots) for more natural results.

Wedding vendors have also more availability in winter, since summer is the high season, so you will get more chances to get the wedding vendor services you would like to have and some of them probably would also offer you a small discount.

No matter the month of the year or the weather, your wedding day will be a beautiful day!

Hunton Park wedding, a Christmas winter wedding

Hunton Park was the last wedding venue I was working in last year, at the end of November.  I was second shooting for Kenny Wong for this event. He had come along second shooting for me for Nicola and Gary’s wedding on September and this time was my turn.

I really like winter weddings. There is something very romantic and cozy about them, even more with the Christmas tree and decorations at Hunton Park. Clare and Darien chose silver pinecones and red holly berries as decorations, perfect for their Christmasy wedding. Red and silver was also the color of Clare’s bouquet.

Renaissance Hotel Wedding: Jennie and Alex

Jennie and Alex got married on October last year and they had a truly amazing wedding, featured a few weeks ago in OMG.The day started at the incredible Renaissance Hotel in St. Pancras, what an amazing venue! the architecture, all the backgrounds, the beautiful dome, the staircase…everything is to die for!Jennie was there with her bridesmaids, having their make-up and hair done by Kirsty from thebeautyfoundation. Her bridesmaids wore different dresses in blue and green peacock feather shades, as this was the theme of the wedding, they also wore peacock feathers on their hair and on their bouquets. Jennie looked stunning on her vintage Sally Lacock dress.

Jennie’s bouquet was from Euphoricflowers

After a couple of hours with the girls it was time for me to get to the church in the heart of the city and wait for Jennie’s arrival there. I had been in the church previously and the first time I saw it I was very impressed by how big and bright St. Helens is.

The ceremony was beautiful and after hugging their families and friends, it was photo time! They had requested some group photos that I took outside the church and then I had the opportunity to be with them alone for a few minutes to get their portraits.

I couldn’t be happier with the location and venues of this wedding, so many backdrops and nice spots for photos, incredible! in around half an hour we got so much variety, outdoors and indoors…The Renaissance hotel is actually the same building as St. Pancras International Rail Station and we went inside the station for some photos in the platform, this one posted here being one of my favorites of the day.

City of London wedding, Prism and Lamb Tavern in Leadenhall Market

Hannah and James got married on a chilly but lovely day on early November last year in the city of London.
They chose Prism as their wedding venue for both the ceremony and reception. Prism is an elegant and stunning venue on Leadenhall Street in the city of London, with high ceilings, greek style columns and a big painting decorating the main wall. The atmosphere created for the ceremony was great, with dim light and candles on the floor leading to the altar.Prism is right in front of Leadenhall Market, a covered victorian market from the 14th century. I had seen this market before only in pictures, but never in real life until I went there to make my research before the wedding. It is a bit hidden but totally worth visiting, so pretty and elegant! As the market is only a few steps away from Prism, Hannah and James decided that would be a good plan to go to the Lamb Tavern in the market for the reception drinks whilst Prism was set up to hold the wedding breakfast. The day of the wedding the market had already a Christmas tree, even though it was only early November. This came as a surprise but a good one, and I could include the tree in some of the photos, and arrange all the group photos around it.This area in London is really great for photos with so many incredible buildings around, such as the Gherking and Lloyds Building, we didn’t have to go very far away to get nice backgrounds for their portraits.Hannah got ready in a hotel nearby and we walked together to the ceremony. She looked stunning in her greek style wedding dress!and she was such a radiant, happy bride all day long!bridal preparations before wedding at the apex hotel in the city of londonblack and white photos of a bride having her hair done on her wedding day

Central London wedding: St. Helen’s Bishopsgate church and St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, a sneak peek

It looks like once you get your work featured on wedding blogs, everything comes at the same time. Last week was Louise and Dan’s wedding on lovemydress and today is Jennie and Alex’s on OMG.
This is great, and it cannot be a better start of the year, it seems like the 13 is not such a bad number after all!! Quite the contrary on my case :)
As it is being common lately, this is just a sneak peek with two of my favorite photos of the day, which I also put on my website. But I promise that my next blog post will be a full wedding.
The wedding reception was at the absolutely stunning Renaissance Hotel at St. Pancras. Beautiful building inside and out! Amazing architecture! The hotel is communicated with the International train station, so we went there for a few minutes to get some shots. Aren’t train stations romantic?

Leadenhall market wedding, a sneak peek

I think I have already said that I love London weddings…and I did love this one! It was at The city, with the drinks reception at the very beautiful Lamb Tavern in Leadenhall market, with a Christmas tree included (in early November!). More images coming soon!
Merry Christmas to everyone and a happy New Year!!
