Engagement shoot with dog

Engagement shoot with dog at Battersea Park

Today I wanted to share just a few pictures from one of my last engagement shoots, an engagement shoot with dog.

I was very excited since the moment I received the request for this engagement photoshoot…everyone who knows me well know I am such a dog lover. I was very much looking forward to this photo session.

Instead of photographing the couple by themselves, their dog joined the photoshoot for most of the photos. A wonderful addition to the session, a great memory for them and…people are so much more relaxed when having dogs around! It makes camera-shy people feel much more at ease in front of the camera. If you have a dog, I totally recommend the dog joining for any photo sessions you are planning!

Wedding group photos

wedding group photo at the Renaissance Hotel Kings Cross

I think it was about time to write a blog post about wedding group photos, also known as “formals”.

I don’t tend to put these photos on my website, not even often on my blog, and I don’t even show them much in private viewings with clients either. I show my formal wedding group photos too little I think. I guess that I think everyone knows how these pictures looks like, or that they can get a bit boring and samey sometimes…I don’t know, I don’t think that many people have been ever wowed by a wedding group photo, or at least it is something that doesn’t happen often.

wedding-group-photos

These probably won’t be the photos that will put a smile on your face remembering the moment (as opposed to candid photos) but I absolutely agree that some need to be taken. Wedding group photos are the ones that tend to end up in the mantelpieces the most, so they are a must for nearly all of my clients. But I will tell you a secret… I don’t know a photographer yet that loves to takes these pictures.

Being completely honest, it is not my favorite part of the day. I believe that part of the problem is that is the moment when I have to became the “bossy” photographer I am not. Organising big groups of people and get to take these photos in the shortest amount of time is not an easy task.

My priority is to take these photos quickly so the guests and bride and groom can go and enjoy a little bit of the drinks reception too, instead of being posing for endless photos for most of the time.

To get this, I advise my clients to keep the list short (8-10 group photos is a reasonable number and I would say my average) and luckily I normally get the help from the best man or the bridesmaids, who can help to gather people.

So…these are some of my wedding group photos, which have been hidden for quite a while, it was about time to show some of them!

Not all the group photos have to be the same or boring, I actually tend to take some a bit fun or different if I see the group is in the mood.

Mini sessions photography promotion

These are the last business cards I have ordered from Moo (my favorite business card provider!)

I decided to have these postcards printed to promote some sessions available only until the 3rd July. The sessions are 45 minutes long (I have called them”mini sessions”, as typically my sessions are a bit longer than that) and perfect to get some nice photos with your partner/family in one location for a fraction of the price.

If you are interested, contact me soon to book your mini session!

Engagement photoshoot abroad (here in London)

First of all, happy Valentines day all! I thought I would share same photos from one of my last sessions today to celebrate the day of love. Melissa and Jay live both in the United States but they decided to have their engagement photoshoot abroad (here in London).

As it is natural, this engagement session asked for a London landmark as a background and some other London’s typical and cool urban furniture, such as our very photogenic telephone boxes.

The connection with both Melissa and Jay was immediate and it was sooo easy and such a pleasure to work with them.

Newland Hall wedding

Martin and Kate tied the knot in a ceremony at St. Christopher’s Church in Willingale followed by at reception at Newland Hall in Roxwell, in Essex. Their wedding was held quite a while ago…it was an amazing day and a beautiful wedding, it simply was not on the blog earlier because I haven’t been too good at keeping the blog up to date lately. Many more blog posts are to come this year, from recent and not so recent work. For starters, have a look at these Newland Hall wedding photos.

At their wedding, I had the pleasure to see Dan and Louise again. I had photographed their wedding the previous year (which you can see if you click here) and which was featured in Love my dress. They were the ones who recommended my services to Martin and Kate. It is always a pleasure to see my past clients in other weddings and knowing that they are the reason why I am shooting another wedding.

Martin and Kate’s wedding was travel-themed, as they love to travel. Each table represented a country and the table plan was displayed in a beautiful vintage world map.

And…they also had an amazing vintage campervan!

Artistic nude maternity photography

I photographed Kailey’s wedding around a year and a half ago and it was a pleasure to know that she was pregnant and that she would like to be in front of my camera again for an artistic nude maternity photography session.

We started with a bright look and natural light (no nude for this look) and the use of  some pink balloons to celebrate that the baby she was expecting was a baby girl, followed by some artistic nude maternity photos against a black background where Kailey and her pregnancy were the main subject.

Chelsea Town Hall wedding

I loved Gerry and Jenny’s Chelsea Town Hall wedding!

I’ve got a soft spot for small weddings like this one, as I find my quiet personality suits this kind of intimate weddings very well.

Gerry and Jenny’s wedding was so intimate that it nearly felt like an elopement. They both live in the USA, but they came here to tie the knot in the company of very close family and friends as Gerry is british.

It was a splendid and laid back day with a strong London flavor.

After the ceremony at Chelsea Town Hall, we all made a move in a Routemaster bus to some of London’s highlights and finally to The Mitre, a pub near Holland Park.

Pembroke Lodge Wedding

Wow! I cannot believe it has taken me this long to blog this wedding…I am so behind on my blogging! I have not only some weddings from last year to blog, but  from last summer! This wedding was on September, 5 months ago already.

The bride and groom  are Amaia and Auran, and they got married in the gorgeous Pembroke Lodge, in Richmond Park.

From the first moment I met them, I got a connection with them, specially with Amaia, who is from Spain (so do I) and book me as their photographer proved to be a good choice. There were groups of people speaking both english and spanish, so it was quite useful being able to communicate in both languages, specially for organizing the group shots.

Amaia is from the basque country, a region in northern Spain with its own traditions and her friends prepare a surprise for her.

They learnt how to dance the traditional basque country dance for her. This was a really beautiful thing to see and such a surprise for her, it was very emotional.

Central London engagement shoot

This lovely engagement shoot happened a couple of months ago in central London. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to post some photos!

Jeannie and Tak are from Malasya, but live here, and I was lucky to be the photographer they chose for their engagement shoot in London. For them it was not only important to capture them and their feelings for each other, but they wanted something with a very british and London taste to it. They were also wearing the same outfits they will be wearing on their wedding day, which I love.

The day started early in the morning in the Royal Albert Hall and we had a black cab all the time with us to take us from one place to the other. These are all the places we visit: The Royal Albert Hall, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Aldmiral Arch, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Millenium Bridge and St. Paul’s and Tower Bridge.

They were three great and intense hours and as usual, the time flew by.

This is a selection of photos of the day.

Fuji Pro 400 Film Bridal Shoot

Last Sunday was an exciting day for me. I organized a bridal shoot with Angela in a London park. Angela is already married but she fancied some beautiful photos on her dress in London.

We had a great time together and she was a pleasure to work with, but the main reason I was so excited, was because that day I was shooting film and not digital. These photos here were taken with a AE-1 Canon film camera with a roll of Fuji Pro 400.

I love how film looks, even if that sometimes means to have a less “clean” image or not so sharp. There is something charming about film.
